The highlight of this strike action was the enthusiastic participation of the newly recruited Class IV employees across the country who joined few days ago. In three divisions in UP, the day was declared as holiday on account of Assembly Elections in certain parts of the state. Hence strike could not be observed in such offices. A special mention should be made about the strike performance in Burdwan division which recorded more than 95% strike. In West Bengal , the ruling party made every attempt to disrupt the strike. In Burdwan, a few days before the strike, there was an attack by the Trinamool Congress on the procession taken out in support of the strike. Two of the CITU leaders were killed in the attack. Even on the eve of strike action there were threats of physical attacks on our comrades. Inspite of all these odds the strike was a massive success.
