Demonstration in District Capitals

The Silver Jubilee Year Conference of Vellore Division
had decided to conduct Mass Demonstration in Public
Place against allowing FDI in Retail Trade at an
appropriate time.

Since the UPA Government  had decided to allow
the entry of FDI in Retail Trade and continued with
other Anti People Activities such as Hike in Diesel Price,
Restriction of Domestic LPG Cylinders and Sale of 
PSU Shares, Mass Demonstration was held in all
District Capitals on 25.09.2012.

Demonstrations were held in Vellore, Pondicherry,
Cuddalore, Thiruvannamalai and Villupuram. Besides
the Comrades of AIIEA, Comrades from Traders' 
Associations, Fraternal  Unions, CPI(M) took
part in the Demonstrations.

Total of 300 Comrades participated in the 
Demonstrations conducted in these 5 centres.
Leaflets exposing the Anti People Policies were
also issued to the Public.

   

Inauguration of Dr Ambedhkar Education and Recruitment Training Centre at Cuddalore and Final Phase Thane Cyclone Relief Distribution.

It was a meeting on 21.09.2012  at Cuddalore Branch Premises arranged by ICEU, Vellore Division with twin purpose of Inaugurating Dr Ambedhkar Education and Recruitment Training Centre at Cuddalore along with TNUEF and Final Phase  Distribution of Relief Materials to the victims of Thane Cyclone. The Responsibility of   Running of this centre is taken by the Cuddalore Unit.

Com M.Dasarathan, President, Vellore Division presided and Com V.Sukumaran, Branch Secretary, welcomed the gathering. Com S.Raman, General Secretary, Vellore Division in his greetings explained the Relief done so far. Many Leading Leaders of Cuddalore District including Com M.Marudhavanan, BEFI, Com S.G.Rameshbabu, CITU, Com M.Valentina, AIDWA, Com N.Vanchinathan, TNUEF, Com P.Arivukkarasu, LIC SC/ST Emp Welfare Association greeted the Participants.

Com P.Neelavendhan, Deputy General Secretary of Adhi Thamizhar Peravai and a functionary of TNUEF inaugurated the Cuddalore Centre of Dr Ambedhkar Education and Recruitment Training Centre. Com K.Swaminathan, General Secretary, SZIEF delivered the Special Address. The Faculty of the centre were honoured.

Relief Materials by way of Financial Aid for Education, Vessels, Cycle, Table and Chair were distributed to 25 beneficiaries worth of Rs 80,000. From the Funds contributed by the Units of A.I.I.E.A in Tamilnadu, Relief of Nearly Five Lakh Rupees were carried for those affected in the Thane Cyclone.

The Event came to a close with vote of thanks by Com K.P.Sugumaran, Convenor of the Cuddalore Centre. Around 125 Comrades took part.

 

 

An Untouchability Wall in the name of a Temple

In vellore District, Those who travel in Walajapet  Sholingur Road, will be attracted by the Huge Padavettamman Statue of the padavettamman Temple situated opposite to the Walajapet BDO Office. But they may not be aware of the sorrow behind the Temple and the social evil of untouchability perpetrated by the Trustees of the Temple  with the backing of Police and District Administration.

Before five generations, the Oppressed section of people with three bricks worshipped as Lord Padavettamman and gradually it emerged as a small temple. The philanthropist to whom the land belongs gave some land to the temple and some land to the Dalith people. Ambedhkar Nagar thus came into being and there is vast government land between the temple and Ambedhkar Nagar.

Slowly the fame of the Temple spread and income for temple started generating. So it attracted the attention of affluent persons and they captured the control of the temple sidelining the people who created and developed the temple. They had no other alternative other than to accept the humiliation, discrimination shown on them.

But that is not the end of the story and they were in for more attacks and shocks. The vacant land increased the greedy of those vested interests and the chairman of the trustees who is a fleet owner wanted to convert this land as his Lorry Shed and also wanted to construct a Marriage Hall which will mint money.

Daliths of Ambedhkar Nagar using the Government Land as their path way was a big obstacle for their game plan and they decided to implement their plan at any cost. How?

Doing good deeds, it is always difficult, but when it is a matter of destruction, lakhs of ideas will pour in a second. This is the case here too. They put a board  that they are going to erect a Huge Statue of Lord Hanuman and a compound wall and asked for donations from the devotees.

Without waiting for any collection, they constructed a base for Lord Hanuman and dropped the plan in an abrupt manner and completed a lengthy, huge wall surrounding the temple and government land  preventing the Daliths, their path used for more than 50 years.

When the people of Ambedhkar Nagar staged a Road Roko Agitation, few angered youth made way by demolishing a small portion. Police intervened and assured solution through talks. But they stood by the vested interests and foisted false cases on the youth. Though there were two rounds of peace talks and one powerful demonstration by CPIM and VCK  has taken place, the solution is still eluding.   

It is an issue of Prestige and Money for the vested interests where as it is an issue of Life and Right for the Dalith. Constructing a wall in the Government Land is a criminal offence of encroachment. Preventing Daliths is an untouchability crime. It is pity that Government is defending the criminals and there is presence of large police force to protect the illegal untouchability wall.

Yesterday on 22.09.2012, Com P.Sampath, Central Committee member, CPI(M) and also the president of Tamilnadu Untouchability Eradication Front along Com N.Gunasekaran, State Secretariat member, CPI(M) and other district level leaders visited the spot and discussed with victims.

When the Government is not in a position to render justice, do we have any other alternative to take justice ourselves? This is the  prevalent position here. So it has been decided to launch a direct struggle on 30.09.2012. Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Bahujan Samaj Party and Tamilnadu Untouchability  Eradication Front will take part in the struggle along with the victims.

Pulling Down of the Untouchability Wall,

Creating Proper Road,

Handing over the Temple to Daliths or to the Government Department of

Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments.

The Struggle will be September 30 on the Death Anniversary of the veteran left leader  Com P.Srinivasarao, who even before 80 years, fought for the oppressed, gave them courage to struggle.

When we saw anger in the eyes of women and the words of youth, it is sure that not only the wall, also the discrimination and shatter the Ego of the Vested Interests.

The Comrades of AIIEA who are part of the TNUEF also will play their role in this struggle.

18.09.2012 is the 16^th Death Anniversary of Com Sunil Maitra, One of the Great Leader of A.I.I.E.A.

Insurance Week was celebrated with lot of Enthusiasm  and Jubilation   throughout  the Country. We must not forget the Fact that Com Sunil Maitra, who is referred as War Minister of A.I.I.E.A by Our Senior Comrades turned Indian Parliament into a Battle Field and successfully defended the L.I.C of India as a Monolithic Corporation when the Congress Government attempted to Split LIC as Five Corporations. This laid the Foundation for the Consolidation and the Present Growth of the L.I.C of India.

To Pay Homage to the Great Visionary, Com Sunil Maitra, We reproduce Excerpts from His Article on Paris Commune in the March 1976 Issue of Insurance Worker.

“Paris Commune graphically  established two things, If the bourgeoisie is forced to make a choice between the national interest and his class interest, he will not hesitate even for a moment to sell his country to retain or win his class interest. One of the greatest lessons of Paris Commune is that let no worker take lessons on patriotism from bourgeoisie or their spokesmen. Working Class is the greatest of all patriots. But their patriotism is not narrow, class patriotism. Their Patriotism is for their own country as well as for the toiling people of the entire humanity”

How Correct is his vision in the present Indian scenario where the Ruling Government is selling India to the American Imperialism and to the Multi National Companies.

Let us be in forefront in the Struggle to protect the Country. That will be the fitting homage to Com Sunil Maitra.

ICEUnion, Vellore Division Arranged Get Together with TT Players

46th LIC South Zone Table Tennis Tournament is taking place
at Vellore on 17,18 September 2012.

Insurance Corporation Employees' Union, Vellore Division
Arranged a Get Together with the Players who came from
the Two States Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Saaral Art Troupe of Vellore gave a very good entertainment
to the Players who had hectic matches in the Hot Sun of
Vellore.

The Folk Songs and the Thappaattam were very much enjoyed.
