Brutal Attack on Tribals, Houses Gutted, Demolished

The Ten Tribal Families in a very tiny village Ariyakunjoor, in Chengam Taluk of Thiruvannamalai District would have never imagined that  the Local Body Elections will make their life miserable. When the Ruling Party Candidate lost the Election for the post of Village President  by 3 Votes, His anger turned on the innocent Tribal Families assuming that they voted against him.

On the night  when results were declared the Ruling Party Candidate also a landlord entered the Tribal’s  hamlet, driven them out, Put Fire on the thatched houses and not content with this, brought a bull dozer and demolished the small houses. It was made a plain land and there is not even a single proof to suggest that 10 families lived there.

The Police not only refused to accept their complaint but also gave some blows. The Affected People who were roaming in the Chengam Town blaming their destiny were spotted by the Local Leaders of CPI(M) and they rushed to their rescue. After the intervention of  CPI(M), Police filed First Information Report but still evading to arrest the accused who has his roots in the ruling party.

Due to the efforts of CPI(M), Tamilnadu Tribal’s Association, The District Administration  agreed to provide  land for the victims  and the red tapism  delays its implementation.

On hearing their plight, I.C.E.Union, Vellore Division gave a call to its members and in a week’s time Rs 25,000  was collected. Using this contribution, the Office bearers of Vellore Division  went to Ariyakunjoor Village on 21.12.2011 and gave Rice, Dress, Vessels and also cash to all the affected families.

Comrades from CPI(M) including Com N.Veerabhadran, Thiruvannamalai District Secretary of CPI(M) and the Tamilnadu Tribal’s Association assisted and accompanied  in giving the relief materials.
